National History
Omega Delta Phi Fraternity Inc. began as the brainchild of Founding Father Joe Cereceres. In the fall of 1987, seven distinct Men of Vision came together at Texas Tech University to from a Brotherhood. The seven founders were Joe Cereceres, Eugene Dominguez, Arturo Barraza, Juan Barraza, Tommy Hurtado, Chris Forbes, and Elliot Bazan.
Since its beginning in 1987, Omega Delta Phi has been an organization perpetually dedicated to the idea of constant growth and improvement. As such, we face the new challenges of tomorrow with a growing sense of optimism and newfound awareness that "good" will not be good enough. We must work to form an organization which not only challenges the traditional perception of fraternities, but also one with deals with the issues of culture and race for a completely new perspective. Thinking outside the box in no longer an acceptable plateau; the box must now be removed completely
Service is the light that Omega Delta Phi shines upon the world. Many of the chapters have been honored locally and nationally for their continued service to the community for such projects such as tutoring, mentoring Adopt-A-Highway, and work with the elderly. Our commitment to service continues to be one of the highlights of our organization.
It is in our Accomplishments and desire to serve our community that we the members of Omega Delta Phi pride ourselves. Our ultimate goal is to provide for every man who shares in the goals and visions of Omega Delta Phi, the opportunity to experience our brotherhood, which is our home.
Mission of Omega Delta Phi
The mission of Omega Delta Phi as stated by Founder Joe Cereceres is as follows: “The purpose of this brotherhood, a service/social fraternity dedicated to the needs and concerns of the community shall be to promote and maintain the traditional values of Unity, Honesty, Integrity, and Leadership. This brotherhood was founded in order to provide, to ANY man, a diverse fraternal experience which coincides with a higher education.”
"One Culture, Any Race"
This motto accurately describes Omega Delta Phi's philosophy of inclusion. Omega Delta Phi has always found itself in the position of appealing to people of many races and backgrounds. The reason is that our ideals are universal. While other organizations focus on what they have been, Omega Delta Phi focuses on what it is becoming.
Race is a limiting concept that often forces people of a nationality and/or color into preconceived roles and expectations. However, any man will tell you that people of the same nationality can be as different as day and night in their beliefs and ideals. A culture, however, is defined by a shared ideals, traditions, and values. Omega Delta Phi Fraternity, Inc. is founded on the concept that in order to truly grow as an individual, one must experience views which can challenge existing perceptions to foster growth and enlightenment.
